Roger Howard

Roger Howard went home to be with his Lord and Savior Dec. 30, 2023 at his residence.

Roger was born on July 22, 1948 in Rosspoint, Kentucky to the late Juneavee Howard Martin. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his son Roger Dale Howard Jr. and Brothers and Sisters Roberta, Bobby, Clayton and Garry.

Roger was of the Baptist Faith and was a member of the Blackmont Baptist Church. He had a serving heart that began early in his adult life as he would serve the Armed Forces in the U.S. Army. Roger served his country proudly.

Later he would meet and marry the love of his life Marsha Paulette Hubbard Howard of 52 years, they had 3 children that Roger was so very proud of Renee Howard Smith, Roger Dale Howard and Jason Howard.

Roger loved spending time with his family and one of his greatest enjoyments was being a grandfather to his grandchildren, Katelyn, Cortney, Ryan and Scarlett. He loved and adorned his family and often spoke of how proud he was of them.

Roger was a shining example of God’s light and would share the gospel with all he knew. He loved going to church and testifying of his salvation. Roger was caring, witty and playful, always smiling and happy. He was a huge fan of the UK Wildcats and was loved and adorned by his family and all who knew him. Roger would always tell everyone his greatest accomplishment was his salvation and the love for his savior.

Roger will forever remain in our hearts and his message to us all, we heard from him time and time again was to see the Lord while he may be found and great will be your reward. Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 52 years Paulette Howard, his children Renee Smith and husband Roland, Jason Howard and wife Susan and grandchildren Katelyn, Cortney, Ryan and Scarlett and brothers and sister Rick Howard and wife Amy of Dalton, Georgia, Eddie Howard of Evarts, KY and Teresa Howard of Pathfork, Kentucky and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.

Services were held Jan. 3 at the Blackmont Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Jan. 4 at the Blackmont Baptist Church with Rev. David Howard and Rev. Jeff Craig officiating. Interment followed at Alva Memorial Garden in Blackstar, Kentucky with full military honors given by the Harlan County Honor Guard.

Pallbearers were Vernon Daniels, Floyd Taylor, Connor Griffin, Ryan Hurst, Brian Saylor and Roland Smith.
