Ark Encounter worth family visit

After a soggy spring and wet winter, the thought of more precipitation makes Kentuckians over-flow with excitement, right? Maybe not. I hate to rock the boat, but the 2019 edition of the Old Farmer’s Almanac is predicting a rainy summer.

Since I wouldn’t want it to pour on anyone’s picnic, let me suggest an option that won’t sink your savings account: The Ark Encounter.

For the long Memorial Day weekend, my family hit the road (and every rest-stop/McDonald’s bathroom on the way). Nestled conveniently between Lexington and Cincinnati, Grant County is home to a full-size Noah’s Ark built according to Biblical dimensions… and it’s incredible.

As a mother of two small boys, I hope to make our time together as a family impactful and memorable. I want our shared experiences to be educational, thought-provoking, and meaningful. The Ark Encounter delivers in a big (510 feet long!) way.

It’s difficult for our family to get away for a full week of vacation. Adult work schedules mixed with the kids’ tiny bladders makes going far nearly impossible. During this busy season of life, long weekend excursions are more our pace and are financially prudent.

I love that such a unique attraction is located in our state of Kentucky, employing tons of helpful folks and inspiring thousands of others. The Ark is family-friendly, and the perfect destination for church group outings. I brought home amazing pictures, memories, and a new appreciation for a familiar story… and it even rained.

Our weekend ended like all great Gaynor Getaways do: at a ballpark. Thirty more minutes up the road, the Pirates were playing the Reds. There was plenty of sunshine, ice cream, and (of course) baseball.

I can’t promise any rainbows, but a visit to the Ark Encounter is sure to be a big adventure for everyone.
