The acts that have performed so far at this year’s Levitt AMP Middlesboro Music Series have been an eclectic mix. There has been blues and soul, mariachi and traditional old style mountain music.

This week’s acts will bring the country genre game in full force to the series with rising star Mo Pitney.

According to his official website, Pitney’s musical journey began at a young age where he learned the drums and guitar before he broke into his teenage years.

“I learned how to play with a cast on my arm by laying a rag over my dad’s guitar so it wouldn’t get scratched,” he said.

Pitney later moved to music mecca, Nashville, where he quickly found success with a producer and record label.

“People who have done this for a long time think there’s a place for my music, and I hope that’s the case. My eyes are set on being successful, but success is not number one for me. If I can make a comfortable living and have a career making music and keep my head on straight, that’s my goal. And, I think that I have a great opportunity to do that if I don’t get ahead of myself,” said Pitney.

Pitney’s first single, the 2014 “Country” broke into the Country Top 40. This milestone got him recognition from Rolling Stone magazine on their list of “10 New Country Artists You Need to Know.”

In 2016, Pitney released his first album, “Behind the Guitar,” which reached the Billboard top 10 country charts.

Opening act, George Molton, has an impressive pedigree as well, having opened for country stars such as Merle Haggard, Montgomery Gentry and Blake Shelton. Coupled together, Molton and Pitney should prove to give audiences a double hitter and energetic country entertainment.

The show begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Levitt Lot.
