It took extra time, but the Middlesboro girls basketball team picked up what may have been one of their biggest wins of the season on Tuesday. Entering the night on a three-game skid, the Lady Jackets went toe-to-toe with Pineville for four quarters plus an overtime period.

In the end, it was Middlesboro who capitalized during the extra time to walk away with an 84-79 victory.

“Our girls played a great game, I’m extremely proud of them. What an amazing way to pull off a big win on senior night,” said Middlesboro coach Bethany Evans. “All of our seniors stepped up and played hard.

“We had four players in double figures tonight. That’s huge for us. Hopefully this will be a confidence booster and an eye opener for the girls — to show them what they are capable of playing like.”

For Pineville, it was the team’s second consecutive loss after falling to North Laurel one day prior.

Both teams put on an offensive showcase from beyond the arc. They combined to hit 24 3-pointers apiece during the game. Both Middlesboro and Pineville had three players reach the 20-point mark.

Hannah Warren, Lakin Burke and Baylee Woody led Middlesboro offensively. Burke scored a team-high 24 points. Warren tallied 23 points while hitting seven 3-pointers. Woody added six 3-pointers on her way to 22 points.

Pineville was paced by Whitney Caldwell, Makenzie Fuson and Jill Enix. Caldwell finished with a game-high 26 points on five 3-pointers. Fuson hit eight shots from the field and went 4-for-6 from the charity stripe to finish with 22 points.

Enix chipped in 21 points on eight field goals.
