The Bell County girls wrestling team has been having lots of success this season. Their season dual record currently stands at 9-1 with their biggest win coming over McCreary Central 39-30 early in the year. The only loss this season was to McCreary Central at the Bobcat Christmas Brawl on Dec. 30. That gave the Bell girls a second place overall finish that day.
The season certainly hasn’t been all second-place finishes though. After beginning the season with a sixth-place finish at Madison Central, the Bell County team has improved weekly. The Lady Cats finished second at the Battle of the Burg.
The highlights of the season have been first-place finishes in tournaments at Louisville Seneca and in The Lioness at East Jessamine. Their latest victory was at the Claiborne County Duals. Even with all the wins and solid finishes, the biggest moment of the season had to be when the team found out they were one of only eight who qualified for the first ever Kentucky Girls State Duals. That event will be held at the Corbin Arena on Jan. 25 at the same time as boys state duals.
Team leaders in wins are Keira Good with 16 and McKenzie Webb with 21. Webb is unbeaten on the season. Other wrestlers to finish first in their classes in tournaments this season are Grace Helton and Hannah Fetters. Medalists at various tournaments include Mia Barnett, Izzy Willis, Evie Jones, Michala Daniels, Sidney Young, Kennedy Slusher, Kaylee Lester, Alexis Howard, Alyssa Goodin and Jojo Inman.
The Bell girls return to action. Jan 15 at home against Whitley County.
