MIDDLESBORO — A team-high 23-point performance by senior Keevi Betts was not enough to offset a three-pronged offensive attack by Corbin Tuesday night, as the Lady Yellow Jackets dropped a 64-47 decision in the season-opener for both teams.
The Lady Redhounds got a game-high 24 points from senior Kylie Clem, while junior Izzy Walker and senior Raegan Walker combined for another 26 points for Corbin.
Corbin’s first game of the season was originally scheduled for Thursday at home against Barbourville, but the matchup with Middlesboro was formally scheduled on Tuesday morning.
Izzy Walker and Clem teamed for 11 points, apiece in the first quarter, pushing Corbin at a lead the Lady Redhounds would not relinquish.
Betts scored seven points for Middlesboro in the second quarter, helping keep the Lady Yellowjackets within striking distance at halftime, trailing 32-20.
Raegan Walker hit three 3-pointers in the third quarter, pushing the Lady Redhounds’ lead to 45-32 entering the final quarter.
Clem added her final seven more points during the game’s final eight minutes, allowing Corbin to pull away.
Junior Addyson Larew chipped in with eight points and a team-high seven rebounds for Middlesboro, and the Lady Yellow Jackets shot 34.9 percent from the field (15 for 43). Middlesboro was 6-for-18 from behind the 3-point line, with Betts connecting on three and freshman Emily Lambert with two.
Corbin knocked down eight 3-pointers with Izzy Walker and Raegan Walker hitting three apiece.
Middlesboro travels Thursday to East Jessamine.
