The Middlesboro Independent School District (MISD) is pleased to announce the hiring of Andy Kim as a consultant, with his contract beginning on November 11, 2024. Mr. Kim will play a vital role in guiding the district through its transition toward appointing a new superintendent in 2025.
Current Superintendent Waylon Allen is retiring in January. With years of experience supporting MISD through his work with the Perseid Foundation, Mr. Kim brings a deep understanding of the district’s unique needs and goals.
“We are excited to have Andy Kim join us in this capacity,” said Teresa Brown, Chair of the Middlesboro School Board. “Mr. Kim has already been working closely with us through the Perseid Foundation, and he understands the needs of our students, teachers, and broader school community. His commitment to educational excellence will be a great asset as we prepare for this important transition.”
As part of his consulting role, Mr. Kim will focus on several key areas to support MISD’s strategic goals, including:
• Enhancing instructional practices to improve student learning outcomes
• Providing targeted professional development for teachers and administrators
• Building on existing initiatives to support a strong district culture and positive school climate
• Reviewing and strengthening leadership practices to ensure a smooth transition
• Collaborating with MISD leaders to assess and refine curriculum alignment across all grade levels
Mr. Kim expressed his enthusiasm for this new role, emphasizing his dedication to supporting MISD’s students and staff.
“As an educator, you look for opportunities to help students succeed, and I am grateful for this chance to support the teachers and students at MISD,” said Kim. “I appreciate the leadership of the Board members in prioritizing improvement, and I look forward to working with Mr. Allen to understand the district’s achievements and build upon them.”
With Mr. Kim’s support, MISD aims to ensure a smooth and effective transition as it prepares to welcome a new superintendent who will continue advancing educational outcomes for its students.
