Bobcats open district slate with victory over McCreary Central

Bell County juniors Blake Burnett and Kaleb Miller combined for 347 yards of total offense and six touchdowns Friday night at Dudley Hilton Field to lead the Bobcats to a 50-28 win over visiting McCreary Central.
Burnett threw for three TDs on a 5-for-8, 179-yard performance, while Miller scored three rushing touchdowns and amassed 131 yards on just 12 carries.
Junior Hunter Everage added the Bobcats’ final TD on a 1-yard run in the third quarter, and the Bobcats rolled up 264 yards via the overland route.
It marked the Bobcats’ fifth straight win, following a season-opening home loss to North Laurel.
Burnett ignited the aerial fireworks, early with a 65-yard scoring strike to senior Hayden Damron to open the first-quarter scoring. Miller added the two-point conversion run and the Bobcats never trailed.
Following a 22-yard TD run my McCreary Central, Miller scored his first touchdown on a 7-yard run late during the opening quarter.
Miller sandwiched second-quarter scoring runs of 44 and 27 yards around a 40-yard TD pass from Burnett to junior Joseph Brigmon, and the Bobcats led, 36-6 at halftime.
Burnett connected with junior Cayden Huff on a 37-yard scoring pass to open the scoring in the third quarter and begin a running clock.
The TD run by Everage made it, 50-6, and gave way to three late scoring runs by McCreary Central.
In addition to Miller’s team-high rushing effort, the Bobcats had three other players who rushed for at least 30 yards — Burnett (2-37), H. Neal (3-36) and freshman James-Nathaniel Saylor (6-35).
In addition to connecting on scoring passes with Damron and Brigmon, Burnett also completed a pass, apiece, to Huff (37 yards) and Neal (23 yards).
McCreary Central rushed for 257 yards and had three turnovers.
Burnett and freshman Logan Greene were each credited with an interception for Bell, while junior Joshua Owens recovered a fumble for the Bobcats.
Bell travels to Rockcastle County on Friday and will play three of its final four games on the road.
