The Middlesboro Ladies Golf Association (MLGA) proudly announced the start of their new season with an unprecedented turnout of 72 women, the highest attendance in the association’s history. The season kick-off event, held Wednesday, May 22nd at the Middlesboro Country Club, marked a significant milestone and set an enthusiastic tone for the months ahead.

The celebration was highlighted by the recognition of two extraordinary women, Mrs. Sue Mars and Ms. Cecelia Wakin, whose remarkable contributions over the years have greatly influenced women’s golf at Middlesboro Country Club (MCC). Both were honored with certificates of recognition, celebrating their dedication and impact at MCC.

The evening began with a toast, creating a lively and celebratory atmosphere. Attendees then enjoyed a delightful dinner generously sponsored by Hearthside Bank, further enhancing the camaraderie and spirit of the event.

As part of the festivities, the MLGA emphasized the importance of June as Women’s Golf Month, extending an open invitation to all women in the community to join the association and experience the joy and benefits of being involved. This month-long celebration aims to encourage more women to engage in golf.

“We are ecstatic about the record-breaking turnout and the incredible energy it brings to our association and MCC,” said MLGA President Celia Shoffner. “The MLGA is a testament to the tradition and growing interest in women’s golf in our community, and we look forward to an exciting and successful season.”

The Middlesboro Ladies Golf Association, a non-profit organization, has a rich history spanning 76 years since its establishment on June 25, 1948. After nearly two decades of hiatus, the Ladies League was revived in 2021 under the guidance of Jerry Shoffner, PGA Professional and long-time supporter of the Middlesboro Country Club. In 2022, the MLGA was officially re-established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, dedicated to providing educational, competitive, charitable, and social opportunities to support and promote women’s golf in the Middlesboro area.
