Lady Lions enter district tourney on four-game winning streak

Rachel Howard pitched a four-hitter with 14 strikeouts as Pineville closed its regular season schedule Thursday with a 4-0 win over visiting Middlesboro.

Malley Smith led the Pineville offense with an RBI triple. Howard, Monica Whitehead, Kameran Evans, Isabella Adams, Addison Slone and Rayanna Maiden added singles. Howard, Adams and Whitehead also had RBIs.

Pineville edged Leslie County 3-2 on Tuesday as Howard pitched a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts and one walk.

Nadine Johnson led the Lady Lions’ offense with a double and two singles. Addison Slone had a double and single. Adams singled twice. Whitehead had a double. Evans, Baleigh Bargo-Vaughn, Howard and Smith added singles.

The 13-6 Lady Lions played Knox Central on Tuesday in the first round of the 51st District Tournament at Lynn Camp. The 10-17 Lady Jackets played Harlan on Monday in the 52nd District Tournament at Harlan County.

The Pineville Mountain Lions closed their regular-season schedule with a 15-2 loss on Monday to visiting McCreary Central.

Logunn Littles and Wyatt Caldwell had the Lions’ only hits.

Caldwell gave up 10 runs (two earned) on five hits in 2 2/3 innings on the mound. Kaiden Robbins allowed five runs on five hits in 2 2/3 innings.

The 5-13 Lions played Barbourville on Monday at 7 p.m. at Lynn Camp in the 51st District Tournament. Knox Central will play Lynn Camp at 5 p.m. in the opening game.
