Close to 100 visit Pinnacle to view solar eclipse

Despite cloudy weather across the Tri-State on Monday, close to 100 visitors made their way up to the Pinnacle Overlook at Cumberland Gap National Historical Park in hopes of getting a view of the solar eclipse. The sun was not visible for most of the eclipse, which started just before 2 p.m. and peaked at 3:08 p.m. However, patient views were rewarded as the clouds thinned at about 3:30 p.m. and a hazy partial eclipse of the crescent sun could be seen.
A Park Ranger and several volunteers were at the Pinnacle to hand out informative booklets about the eclipse along with viewing glasses. Children were able to do educational activities with in the books and earn their Junior Ranger Eclipse Explorer badges after pledging to only view solar eclipses with proper eye protection and to teach others what they have learned about different kids of eclipses.
