Howard dominates as Lady Lions knock off Wburg, Barbourville

The Pineville Lady Lions ran their record to 3-2 with a 14-3 win at Williamsburg and a 6-4 victory at home against Barbourville.

The Lions pounded out 13 hits against the Jackets led by Rachel Howard and Nadine Johnson’s three hits each.  Madison Johnson and Baileigh Bargo added two hits apiece.  Malley Smith, Rayanna Maidon and McKenzie Laws added hits.

The Lions were aided by their stolen base prowess, going 20 of 20 in attempts.  Nadine Johnson had five thefts, while Bargo and Kameran Evans had four.

Lions ace Rachel Howard was dominant again in the circle.  The sophomore lefty gave up an earned run on three hits while striking out 10 and walking four in the win.

Against Barbourville, the Lions’ bats stayed hot, rapping out nine hits against BHS pitching.

Nadine Johnson, Laws and Isabella Adams had two hits each, led by home runs by Adams and Laws.  Madison Johnson had a double and a single, while Bargo had a double.

The basepaths were also friendly for the Lions, adding nine stolen bases led by Nadine Johnson and Bargo with two each.

Howard picked up her second win of the week in dominant fashion, giving up two runs on four hits over seven innings while striking out 15 Tigers and walking only two.

The Lions return to action April 4 with a road date at Jellico, Tenn.

Lions roll past Red Bird before suffering two losses

The Pineville Mountain Lions won their opening game of the week against Red Bird 17-2 but fell to Jackson County 21-0 and McCreary Central 19-1 to close the week.

The 2-6 Lions pounded eight hits against Cardinal hurlers led by Sam Caldwell’s single and double.  Kaiden Robbins had two singles.  Wyatt Caldwell and Logunn Littles added doubles, while Tristen Johnson and Landon Robbins added singles.

Sam Caldwell and Kaiden Robbins had three RBIs each.  Littles had two RBIs.

The Lions also swiped 21 bases led by Littles’ five thefts. Wyatt Caldwell added four.

Wyatt Caldwell picked up the victory on the mound, giving up two runs on one hit while striking out six and walking two.

The end of the week was not so kind to the Lions as Jackson and McCreary rode hot bats and silenced the Lions’ sticks in turn to decisive victories. Jackson won 21-0 in the All “A” Classic and McCreary claimed a 19-1 victory.

Deacon Partin had the lone hit for PHS against the Generals, while Wyatt Caldwell and Johnson had the lone hits against the Raiders.

Partin suffered the loss against Jackson, while Sam Caldwell did the same against McCreary.

Pineville returns to action on April 9 at Knox Central.
