Lions open season with three losses

The Pineville Mountain Lions went 1-3 this week, losing to Washburn (Tenn.) 10-0, Somerset Christian 10-6, and Cumberland Gap (Tenn.) 11-1 while defeating Red Bird 17-2.

In the Washburn game, the Lions were limited to two hits by Logunn Littles and Tristen Johnson.  Sam Caldwell started on the mound and took the loss, giving up 10 runs (four earned) on five hits, striking out three and walking seven in four innings of work.  Kaiden Robbins closed the game, pitching one inning with two strikeouts.

The Lions responded well on Tuesday, taking 12th Region foe Somerset Christian to the wire on the road before falling.  The Lions pounded out nine hits, led by Deacon Partin, Wyatt Caldwell, and Logunn Littles two hits each.  Tristen Johnson, Sam Caldwell, and Landon Robbins added hits.  Kaiden Robbins started on the hill, going 4.1 innings.  He gave up eight runs on eight hits, striking out 10 and walking four.  Deacon Partin pitched the final 1.2 innings giving up two runs on two hits while fanning two and walking two.

The Thursday game saw the Lions hanging around with Gap for most of the game before the Panthers broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the victory.  Offensively, the Lions had three hits from Deacon Partin, Kaiden Robbins, and Landon Robbins.  Littles took the loss, going 2.2 innings giving up nine runs (six earned) with six walks and two strikeouts.  Kaiden Robbins threw the final two innings and allowed two runs (one earned) with three strikeouts and two walks.
