Mable Shepherd

Mable Shepherd, age 84, of Middlesboro, went home to be with the Lord peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, January 4, 2024, after her battle with dementia and Alzheimers. She was born November 23, 1939, the daughter of the late Henry Smith and Clarenda Griffith Smith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Henry (Tommy) Shepherd; her daughter Martha (Jeannie) Shepherd; and her siblings, Cannie, Marlyn, Buel, Arthur, Jarett, Howard, Vasel, Elvis, Della, and Mason.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Alfred (Sol) Shepherd; daughter, Barbara and husband Sam Hall of Tazewell; grandchildren, Kristin (Krissy) and husband Bradley Carroll of Speedwell, Tommy Lee Shepherd and wife Andrea Shepherd of Middlesboro, Angel Broadwell of London, Jessica Kimberland of North Platte, NE, Shawn Shepherd of Middlesboro, and Shane and wife Lindsey Sexton of Calvin; great grandchildren, Jake and Kinsley Carroll, Henry Michael Shepherd, and June Hupfer. She also has a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was of the Missionary Baptist faith and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Tiprell. Mable was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved to feed her family and friends or anyone who might need a meal. She was well known for her homemade chicken and dumplings.

Mable grew up in a coal community in Perry County. She was always a hard worker from a child up. She helped care for her siblings and also worked in the gardens to help provide for her family. Gardening, cooking, and caring for children were her lifelong priorities. Mable will be greatly missed and remembered, but she suffers no more.

The family of Mable Shepherd received friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Cawood Funeral Home Chapel, Middlesboro. Funeral Services followed at 7 p.m. with Reverand Ronnie Wynn and Bobby Partin presiding. Music was provided by Shirley Partin, Bobby Partin, and Wanda Paul.

Graveside services for Mable Shepherd were held at 2 p.m., on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Green Hills Memorial Gardens in Middlesboro with Reverend Mike Sutton presiding.

Pallbearers were Tommy Shepherd, Shane Sexton, Sam Hall, Bradley Carroll, Jake Carroll, and Kevin Barnett.
