2020 COSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT® MEN’S AT-LARGE TEAM

GREENWOOD, Ind. – A pair of Lincoln Memorial University men’s volleyball players have been named Academic All-District® by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Both senior opposite Evan Cory and junior setter AJ Risavy landed a spot on the 2020 Academic All-District® Men’s At-Large Team, selected by CoSIDA and announced Thursday afternoon.

For Cory it is his second-straight selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® At-Large Team after earning a spot on the Google Cloud Academic All-America® First Team last year. Recognizing the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom, the CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III and NAIA.

A native of Metairie, Louisiana (Holy Cross HS), Cory was outstanding in the classroom and on the court during his four-year Railsplitter career. A double major in accounting and finance, Cory achieved a near-perfect grade point average while becoming the first LMU men’s volleyball player and first Independent Volleyball Association (IVA) player to be tabbed an All-American by the National Volleyball Association (NVA)/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

A three-time Off the Block Division II National Player of the Year finalist, two-time Off the Block, Frisco Mo Independent Teams Player of the Year and four-time Off the Block All-Independent Team member, Cory finished his splendid career at the top of the program’s record book in nearly every major statistical category. He is LMU’s all-time leader in kills (1,249), digs (585), service aces (155), points (1,561.5), attack attempts (2,779), sets played (355) and matches played (96), while ranking second in both total blocks (281) and solo blocks (34). Leading all IVA players, Cory was fifth nationally in 2020 in both kills per set (4.26) and points per set (5.04), not to mention ranking ninth in the nation in attacks per set (8.89), 14th in aces per set (0.47), 20th in attack percentage (.365) and 22nd in digs per set (2.05).

Risavy, a native of Edwardsville, Illinois (Metro-East Lutheran HS), carried an unblemished 4.00 GPA through five semesters and had another standout campaign his junior year. The Railsplitters’ top setter for the third-straight season, Risavy led the IVA and was 13th in the country in assists per set (9.93). A three-time All-IVA performer, Risavy made 457 assists in only 46 sets played and accounted for 60 digs and 18 blocks. He notched 20 assists or more in 12 of 14 matches competed in, reaching 30 assists nine times, making 40 assists on four occasions and recording two 50-assist outings.

Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District® advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 16-19.
