Middlesboro tops North Laurel, 73-68

A solid defensive effort from Middlesboro in the third quarter helped the Jackets pull off a 73-68 victory over North Laurel on Friday. The win extends Middlesboro’s current winning streak to four games and gives them a victory over a top-5 team in the 13th Region.

Jabari Kyle had a break out performance for the Jackets. The senior point guard finished with a game-high 34 points while going 11-for-18 from the field. He connected on 11-of-13 of his free-throw attempts.

TJ Patterson reached double figures with 14 points. The senior forward ended the night shooting 71.4 percent from the field and connected on 4-for-5 from the charity strip. He also hauled in eight rebounds.

Trey Brock led Middlesboro with nine rebounds.

North Laurel was paced by freshman Reed Sheppard’s 30 points. He shot the ball at a 62.5 percent clip while connecting on four 3-pointers. He also went 6-for-9 from the charity stripe and hauled in seven rebounds.

Cole Kelley and Ryan Davidson both reached double figures for the Jags. Kelley finished the game with 13 points on five field goals, and Davidson scored 11 points during the game.

Middlesboro (13-7) was slated to play Harlan County (15-5) on Tuesday.

North Laurel (14-6) was slated to play Clay County (13-6) on Tuesday.
