November is recognized across the country as National Diabetes Month. It is a time when communities across the country team up to bring attention to diabetes. Thursday, at Middlesboro Middle School, Mayor Rick Nelson signed a proclamation designating November as Diabetes Month in Middlesboro. Councilmen Boone Bowling and Bo Green were there in support of the proclamation signing. Julie Ruiz challenged the community to wear blue and then post a photo on social media with the hashtag #TeamShayla. The diagnosis that Ruiz’s daughter received two years ago is Type 1 diabetes. The community came together as one Thursday and wore blue sharing their photos across social media.
