Middlesboro, Pineville represented in state cross country meet

<p>Photo submitted</p> <p>Middlesboro was represented in the state cross country meet by Mallory James, Grace Rose, Katelyn Delk, Kennadi Larew, Kirsten Keith, Ozzy Norris, Brenden Delph, Drew Martin, Cameron Michaelis, Caleb Baker, Trevor Raney and Bailey Helton.</p>
The Kentucky State Cross Country Meet was held at New Horse Park in Lexington on Saturday and featured one girl runner from Pineville, five girl runners from Middlesboro, and seven boy runners from Middlesboro.
Pineville was represented by Elayne Fortner. Middlesboro was represented by Mallory James, Grace Rose, Katelyn Delk, Kennadi Larew, Kirsten Keith, Ozzy Norris, Brenden Delph, Drew Martin, Cameron Michaelis, Caleb Baker, Trevor Raney and Bailey Helton.
As the lone runner from Pineville, senior Elayne Fortner grabbed a 63rd place finish out of the 232 runners in the women’s 5000-meter event with a time of 22:30.36.
There were 286 runners in the men’s 5000-meter event. Junior Ozzy Norris had the best finish for the Middlesboro men, grabbing the 38th spot with a time of 18:06.90. Junior Brenden Delph finished 87th with a time of 19:01.87.
Freshman Drew Martin and senior Cameron Michaelis finished in 256th and 258th positions with times of 21:57.17 and 22:04.28, respectively. Junior Caleb Baker crossed the line at 23:20.15, good for a 273rd finish. Seventh-grader Trevor Raney finished in 276th with a time of 23:42.30, and sophomore Bailey Helton wrapped up the mens runners from Middlesboro, grabbing a 281st finish with a time of 27:08.43. As a team, the Yellow Jackets finished 32nd out of 38 teams.
In the women’s 5000-meter event, eighth-grader Mallory James took the highest finish overall for Middlesboro high school with an eighth place finish and a time of 20:14.84. She helped lead the Lady Jackets to their third straight regional title as a team. She won the regional championship as an individual and was also named the women’s regional runner of the year.
Junior Grace Rose finished in the top-20 with a 16th place finish at a time of 20:48.11. Junior Katelyn Delk finished in 70th position with a time of 22:35.63. Freshman Kennadi Larew finished 114th with a time of 23:48.86 and junior Kirsten Keith rounded things out for the Lady Jackets with a 142nd place finish. As a team, the Lady Jackets finished 10th in the state.
