BULLDOG NOTES

This is the third meeting between Union and Point with Union leading the series 2-0. The Bulldogs won the inaugural showdown on Nov. 11, 2017, 56-29 in Barbourville and pulled out a 21-20 victory last season at Point.

Point dropped a 19-0 divisional game to Reinhardt University (Ga.) last week. The Skyhawks were limited to 51 yards of total offense with 31 coming on the ground and 20 through the air.

Jalen Echols had his best outing of the year in Union’s 24-16 loss at Cincinnati Christian. The freshman back rushed for 101 yards on 21 carries and scored a touchdown. The 100-yard game and rushing score were the first in his career.

Turnovers could play a factor as the Skyhawks have coughed the ball up 12 times (six interceptions, six fumbles lost) in seven games and the Bulldogs 22 times (14 interceptions, eight fumbles lost) in eight games.

Point averages 225.7 yards in total offense with 161.1 coming through the air. Micah Maxey has thrown for 772 yards and three touchdowns on 74-of-144 passing.

Points could at a premium as the Skyhawks average 15.6 points per game with the Bulldogs posting 12.9.

Earl Wells continues to be the team’s leading receiver with 38 catches for 549 yards and six scores. He is two receptions away from becoming the 18th player in program history to amass 40 in a season.

Jay Brown is the Bulldogs’ top tackler with 60, while Cohen Perry and Demonte Bell are next with 38 each.

Tramonte Gardner is fourth on the team in tackles at 28 but leads Union with three interceptions, ranking him 13th in the NAIA.

Bell owns 5.0 tackles for a loss to lead Union.

Point has rushed for only 452 yards on the season with MarQuez Jackson leading the way with 299 and one touchdown. Tyrique Robinson has 103 yards and three scores.

Isaiah McFarland and Tyler Cross lead the Point defense with 40 total tackles. Cross boasts 9.5 tackles for a loss and 4.5 sacks. Jarrod Ollie has 16 stops and a team-high three interceptions.

The Eagle defense boasts 11.0 sacks on the year.
