The Middlesboro middle school girls basketball team bounced back from an emotional loss to Lynn Camp on Tuesday by dismantling the Williamsburg Lady Jackets 39-11 in Middlesboro on Thursday.

Middlesboro was led by Emrey Glover who totaled 16 points for the Lady Jackets. She was followed by Brynlee Foster with 13 points. Keevie Betts added four points, Sierra Higgins added two points, Halaya Brown added two and Kaylee Lawson added two.

“I’m proud of the team tonight,” said Middlesboro coach Beth Evans. “Having our starters back was big tonight. It’s just like a puzzle, if you have one piece that’s missing it’s hard to make up for it. We got starters back tonight and everything seemed to go smoothly. We were hitting our shots, we worked hard, pressed early and built a lead and were able to go to the bench early. It’s easy to come out after a loss and hang your head, but they didn’t do that and I’m proud of them for it.”

The young Williamsburg team was only able to muster 11 total points throughout the game because of Middlesboro’s defense. Williamsburg’s Wilson lead the way with six points, followed by Powers and Creekmore with two. Chinn added one point in the losing effort.

“This helps us in our seeding, with Williamsburg being a conference game. Any conference win helps in terms of conference seeding,” said Evans. “We should know by next week what our seeding will be. I’m guessing that we will be the one or the two seeds.”

“I’m seeing a lot of growth from Brynlee and Emrey,” said Evans. “They’ve been with me for years, and it’s really fun to watch them flourish and improve every game.”

The Middlesboro Lady Jackets will be back in action on Saturday for Bell County Play Day.
