Hinthrone’s career night not enough for Union women’s soccer

CRESTVIEW HILLS — Hailee Hinthorne battled to earn a career-high 13 saves, but Union College women’s soccer fell 2-0 against host Thomas More University (Ky.) on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs start the season 0-1 after a hard fight on the road, which ended with two goals scored in the final eight minutes of the game.

Hinthorne protected Union’s goal with 12 saves before the ball of the Saints’ Haley Dougherty found the back of the net at the 82:29 mark. With the Bulldogs down 1-0, Hinthorne couldn’t hold off the Saints as another goal decided the game in the 87th minute.

STAT OF THE GAME

Despite allowing two goals, Hinthorne collected a career-high of 13 saves in a match.

BULLDOG NOTES

Two Bulldog defenders made their way to the front as Mariane Moschetta and Amber Pusey each had a shot on goal.

Hinthrone’s 13 saves are the first double-digit save outing by a Bulldog since Juliana Schardong stopped 19 shots on Oct. 25, 2017, against Georgia Gwinnett College.

Union host Georgetown College (Ky.) on Wednesday for its home opener. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
