The Levitt AMP Middlesboro Music Series will be held at the downtown Middlesboro Levitt Lot each Thursday at 6:30 p.m. through Sept. 19. A ministry outreach event will be held at Blue Courts in Harlan on Aug. 1 and 2. The main focus of the event is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ through fellowship. Concerts on Clover, will be held on Aug. 1 in downtown Harlan on the front plaza of the Harlan Center starting at 6:30 p.m, hosted by Harlan Tourism.

Indian Creek Baptist Church is having a fish fry on Friday, Aug. 2 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dinner comes with fish, ff, coleslaw, drink and dessert. $7 per person.

Back to School Bash, August 2, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Harrogate Christian Tabernacle, 332 Arthur Road Harrogate, Tenn. There will be food, games, prizes for kids of all ages, and a clothing giveaway, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

AUG. 10

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will be holding a Hunter Education Course from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 10 at the Harlan County Extension Depot at 110 River Street in Harlan. The hunter must attend the session and pass an exam to be certified. All hunters born on or after Jan. 1, 1975 must complete this course. The hunter must be at least 9 years of age to be certified. All participants must register for the course at www.fw.ky.gov. The Cumberland Valley Chapter of the Kentucky Public Retirees (KPR) will meet Tuesday August 13, 2019 at Golden Corral Restaurant in London, Kentucky. The League of Women Voters will sponsor a town hall meeting on the local drug epidemic at 7 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Middlesboro. Guests will be Bell County Sheriff Mitch Williams, Pineville Chief of Police Kyle Dunn and Middlesboro Chief of Police Tom Busic. The audience will be encouraged to ask questions and make comments. We need everyone to work together to address this serious problem.

TUESDAYS

Stand in the Gap Coalition will host Support Transition and Recovery Training (START) on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 325 Straight Creek Road in New Tazewell (old Powell Valley Electric office). START, conducted by James Shoffner, pastor of Riverview Baptist Church, will address substance abuse and addictive processes as well as provide support and education to individuals and families to help them overcome the strongholds associated and will also be providing life skills trainings. Those who are mourning the death of a loved one are invited to attend the Griefshare at New Beginning Baptist Church in Harrogate. This non-denominational Christ-centered program features biblical teachings by grief experts and testimonies of grieving people. GriefShare offers insights that help to renew hope for the future as well as providing the chance to be around other that understand. Effective the first week of August, Appalachian Promise of Claiborne County (APCC), a 501(C)3 faith-based organization, will provide monthly support meetings for MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, located inside the office, located at N. 1718 Broad Street in Tazewell. Stand in the Gap Coalition (SIGCO), a 501(c)3 nonprofit, faith-based organization, along with local churches in the Tri-State area is hosting an evening out for grandparents and caregivers by providing childcare on the second Tuesday of each month. Volunteers are needed for the Kentucky Long Term Care Ombudsman Program (Cumberland Valley District) to read a while, play a game of checkers, discuss the day’s events, reminisce or just sit and watch TV with a local senior. Free saliva-based drug testing kits are provided and sponsored through UNITE and Stand in the Gap Coalition (SIGCO). Give Me a Reason is designed for parents/guardians to use to talk with their children and randomly test them, which gives them a reason to say no when tempted or offered drugs. Kits can be obtained at 44 different distribution points throughout the Tri-State area and at the SIGCO office, at 325 Straight Creek Road, New Tazewell, Tennessee. The American Red Cross is seeking volunteers with flexible schedules to respond to single- and multi-family home fires in the Lake Cumberland service area, which includes Bell, Harlan, Knox and Whitley counties. Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers respond to assist families with shelter, support and access to basic needs immediately following a home fire – often arriving on scene even as the fire is still burning.
