Dozens came out for the Woman Warrior – Bearing the Burden of a Revolution program that was presented Saturday at Wilderness Road State Park. At the onset of the Revolutionary War, many backwoods settlements were left unprotected and in many communities the women not only became providers but also warriors. They found themselves defending land and home against the British loyalists and Shawnee and Cherokee raiders. Like their male counterparts, when needed, they would engage the enemy to protect their families. The program portrayed these scenarios and a Journey to Martin’s Station was also presented to spectators.
