Chris Smith, 18, helped Claiborne County deputies out when he was captured already wearing handcuffs.

Smith was previously arrested by Bell County Sheriff’s Office but was able to escape the cruiser while officers were interviewing the victim.

Deputies with Bell County responded to a domestic incident in the Ferndale community Friday morning where Smith was taken into custody, handcuffed and then placed in the back of a police cruiser.

Deputies were interviewing the victim in the case when Smith was able to escape from the cop car and fled the scene while still wearing the handcuffs.

Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office detained Smith a short time later with Smith still wearing the handcuffs.

Due the initial charges in Bell County being a misdemeanor charge, extradition is not being pursued.

However, reports state additional charges are being filed on Smith by Bell County Chief Deputy Doug Jordan.
