235 make the grade, land on AD honor roll

BARBOURVILLE — Union College Director of Athletics Tim Curry announced the 2019 Spring Athletic Director’s Honor Roll on Wednesday, honoring Bulldog student-athletes who have recorded a grade-point average of 3.0 or above for the most recent semester.

In all, 235 Bulldogs made the grade, which is the second most for the spring semester. A total of 237 earned the honor in the spring of 2017. The overall record is 263 set in the fall of 2018.

“Our student-athletes strive to be the best on and off the field of play,” Curry said. “Seeing the effort our student-athletes earn success in the classroom is a victory no one can take away.”

Of the honorees, 38 posted a perfect 4.0 G.P.A. last semester, which ranks third most in the honor roll’s history. In the spring of 2017, a total of 44 student-athletes recorded a 4.0 while 41 posted a 4.0 in the spring of 2018. The men’s tennis and women’s soccer teams each had five individuals to record a 4.0.

The baseball team led the way with 27 total honorees with the football team following with 25. Men’s soccer had 20 to receive the recognition, while softball had 18.

Thirteen programs recorded cumulative grade-point averages over 3.0. The teams making the grade are women’s basketball, softball, women’s golf, women’s soccer, women’s tennis, women’s archery, women’s cycling, men’s golf, men’s swimming, men’s tennis, men’s archery, and cheerleading.
