BARBOURVILLE — The accolades continue to roll in for Union College senior Juli King as she was named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District 2 Softball Team, as selected by CoSIDA.

The award announcement was made on Thursday.

King was one of 12 to make the first team in District 2. In all, 47 student-athletes earned first team honors in the NAIA.

District 2 consists of schools from Kentucky, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

To be nominated for the award a student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior, or senior with a minimum 3.30 grade-point average and participated in at least 50 percent of their team’s games.

King finished the season with a .486 batting average, which not only leads the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) but is also a school record. The previous top single-season batting average was set by Jennifer Latham at .439 during the 2003 campaign. The Bulldog shortstop tallied 71 hits in 146 at-bats and lined 11 doubles, one triple, and two home runs. King drove in 29 RBIs while scoring 45 runs.

For her efforts, King was crowned the AAC Player of the Year.

The Gallatin, Tenn., native pieced together a 25-game hit streak, which is the longest in program history and is the seventh longest in NAIA history. King closed out the season by not striking out in 132 consecutive at-bats, setting the NAIA record.

By a virtue of making the All-District 2 First Team, King is now eligible for the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-America Softball Team.
