Lady Jackets fall to Raceland

The Middlesboro Lady Jackets traveled to Owensboro to participate in the All “A” classic softball tournament over the weekend.

The Lady Jackets took on the Raceland Lady Rams (17-7) in their first game of the tournament.

Things got off to a rough start for Middlesboro in game one against Raceland as the Lady Jacket’s first three batters were retired before reaching first base.

Raceland tallied their first two runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning, giving the Lady Rams the early 2-0 lead.

After Aubrey Sowders was thrown out at first base for the first out of the second inning, Hannah McCullough gave Middlesboro their first hit on a single to right-center field. The following two batters were caught out, leaving the Lady Jackets off the scoreboard.

The Lady Rams added two more runs in the bottom half of the second inning to extend their lead to 4-0.

Middlesboro finally got some runs on the board in the top half of the third as Sowders drove in Jamarah Young and Shelby Frazier, closing the gap to 4-2.

Lindsay Buis rounded home plate late in the third inning to give Middlesboro their final run of the game.

Aubrey Sowders led the Lady Jacket offense with two RBI on one hit. Jamarah Young added an RBI.

Raceland added five runs in the third inning and five runs in the fourth inning to pull away from the Lady Jackets, forcing the run-rule and securing a 14-3 victory.

With the loss, Middlesboro moved to 9-9 on the season. The Lady Jackets played the Brown Lady Bears in game two of the All “A” Classic. With the win, Raceland improved to 16-5 on the season and played the Brown Lady Bears in game two of the All “A” Classic.
