Local Scout recognized for exceptional service

The Bluegrass Council of the Boy Scouts of America presented Kirby Smith III the NESA Outstanding Eagle Scout Award at the Council’s Annual Banquet in Georgetown. This honor is awarded to a scouter who has given exceptional service to scouting and his community on a local, state and regional level. Recently, Smith organized a day with local pilots who gave a tour of the airport to the Boy Scouts to help them earn their Aviation Merit Badge. The scouts also experienced a 30-minute flight as one of their requirements. In addition, the boys earned the Experimental Aircraft Association Young Eagle Award.
