On Tuesday, Dawson Howard, of Bell County, was recognized by the Bell County Fiscal Court for his outstanding performance with his Special Olympics basketball team the Lexington Defenders and their winning of the state championship.
The Defenders defeated Christian County 31-29 in the state tournament in Louisville.
“They were down the entire game with around a minute left,” Brock explained. “Dawson gets fouled, and they are down one. He hits both free throws to put them ahead, and ultimately they end up winning the state championship. Not only that, but Howard was the leading scorer in the game with 13 points.”
Judge Brock congratulated Dawson and his outstanding performance, “Dawson, way to go.”
