The Family Resource Youth Service Center collaborated with John Boley, Elgin Dental Foundation, to bring an educational dental program to the Lone Jack School Center’s preschool- through eighth-grades. Boley introduced short movie clips on brushing and flossing and conducted an activity to correlate with the movie clips. He taught the intermediate and primary students about the importance of taking care of your teeth beginning with the baby stage of growth. He talked to the students about smoking and tobacco use destroying their teeth and their appearance if they should get cancer of the mouth. He showed them pictures of people who had to have portions of their faces and mouth removed due to the tobacco use. Students examined teeth and took a “tooth” necklace home.
