Middlesboro dominates Williamsburg in season opener

WILLIAMSBURG — The Middlesboro Lady Jackets dominated their opening round match-up against the Williamsburg Lady Jackets in the 13th Region All “A” Classic on Monday.
Middlesboro (1-0) fell behind early in the game 6-2 before rattling off 21 straight runs en route to a 23-6 victory and a berth in the 13th Region All “A” Classic Tournament semifinals.
As last year’s 13th Region All A champion, Williamsburg was looking to repeat but couldn’t stop Middlesboro’s high-caliber offense.
With 12 hits on the day from Middlesboro and five errors from Williamsburg, Middlesboro capitalized on every opportunity presented. Senior Aubrey Sowders led Middlesboro with two hits, one home-run, three runs and five RBI. She was followed closely by senior Shelby Frazier who went 3-for-4 in the box with three RBI. Sophomores J.J. Brown and Megan Gent also added two RBI each.
Williamsburg’s Bethany Stephens led the Lady Jacket effort going 2-for-3 in the box, scoring two runs with two RBI. She was followed Allison Caddell, who went 1-of-2 with two RBI.
Middlesboro is back in action against Lynn Camp in the semifinals. Williamsburg next faces off against the Lady Cats on March 25 at Lynn Camp.
