WINGATE, N.C. — The Lincoln Memorial baseball team is starting to draw attention throughout the region, as an eight-game winning streak has landed the Railsplitters at No. 7 in this week’s NCBWA Southeast Region rankings.
Since falling to 6-6 on the season after an 8-3 loss at King on Feb. 19, Lincoln Memorial (19-8) has been on an absolute tear with wins in 13 of its last 15 games. That stretch includes three-game South Atlantic Conference road sweeps against Anderson, Carson-Newman and most recently Lenoir-Rhyne.
The Railsplitters have won a season-high eight consecutive games since their last loss on March 2.
North Greenville is No. 1 in this week’s Southeast Region poll with 10 first-place votes and 118 points total, while Catawba, the last team to beat the Railsplitters, is second with 102 points and one first-place vote. Mount Olive is third and Newberry is fourth, while Columbus State rounds out the top five in fifth. USC Aiken, which swept LMU to open the season, is a spot ahead of the Railsplitters at No. 6.
The Railsplitters have been in a zone offensively of late with at least seven runs in seven of their last eight games, including five double-digit scoring performances over that span. Lincoln Memorial is hitting .307 as a team and scoring right at eight runs per game for the season.
A five-game home stand is on tap for the Railsplitters this week. LMU welcomes Shorter on Tuesday and Kentucky State on Wednesday for nonconference matchups before hosting Queens for a three-game SAC series on Friday and Saturday.
