Locals players named to all-region team

Three local area high school players were named First Team All-Region by the 13th Region Basketball Coaches Association. Middlesboro’s Jabari Kyle, Bell County’s Abby Harris and Pineville’s Whitney Caldwell each received the honor.

A four-year starter for the Yellow Jackets after earning a starting spot as an eighth-grader, Kyle led the Yellow Jackets with 15.1 points per game and 3.1 rebounds per game during his junior campaign. He helped lead Middlesboro to a 13th Region All A tournament title as well as a 52nd District championship.

Kyle was also named to the 52nd All-District team by the 13th Region media.

Harris led the Lady Cats this season with 17.6 points per game with 5.8 rebounds per game. The junior guard helped guide Bell County to the 52nd District championship before ultimately losing to Harlan County.

Harris was named the 52nd District Breakthrough Player of the Year by the 13th Region media, as well as being named to the all-district team.

Caldwell led the Lady Lions with 16.5 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per game. She helped guide a young Pineville team to a 16-14 record.

Caldwell was named the 51st District Player of the Year, as well as being named to the all-district team.
