The Family Resource Youth Service Center at Lone Jack School Center invited the Bell County Sheriff’s Office to conduct a K9 program for kindergarten- through eighth-gades.

Detective James Taulbee, K9 officer, presented the program with Giro, a police dog and his partner. He taught the students about the dangers of drugs, how the problem is abundant in the area and how Giro could find drugs wherever they are hidden.

To protect children in the community, Giro is also taken into high schools to do a search just to make sure students are not using or trying to sell these drugs to other students.

Det. Taulbee and Sheriff Mitchell Williams hid samples of drugs throughout the gymnasium and then allowed Giro to demonstrate to the students how he worked to find the drugs. Giro was always was right on target where the drugs were located.

Following the program, older students were permitted stop by a display table to observe what the drugs looked like so they could stay away from them on the streets.
