Preliminary information indicates that Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers tried to stop a vehicle that was on the BOLO (Be On the Look Out) advisory. The vehicle was first spotted on U.S. Hwy 25E in Bean Station.

The female driver initially took off, leading law enforcement on a chase from Grainger into Claiborne county, winding up on Lone Mountain Road. Initial reports indicate the driver stopped the vehicle at the intersection. The woman fled on foot into a nearby field with troopers in pursuit.

According to the TBI report, the female produced a handgun and troopers fired. The woman was shot and died at the scene.

The name of the female suspect is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin. No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.

As is normal TBI policy, the identity of the officers involved in this incident is being withheld. The Bureau is referring questions of this nature to the respective department.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Any findings will be shared with the District Attorney General throughout the process, according to the report.
