51st District Tournament Preview

The 51st boys district tournament begins on Monday at 7 p.m. featuring Knox Central versus Pineville in the opening round, followed by Lynn Camp versus Barbourville on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The winner of each game will advance to the 51st District championship game on Thursday at 7 p.m.

The women’s tournament begins on Wednesday, with Knox Central taking on Barbourville at 6 p.m. and Lynn Camp battling Pineville at 7 p.m. The winner of each game will advance to the 51st District championship game on Friday at 7 p.m.

Both tournaments will be held at Pineville High School.

Pineville

The Pineville Mountain Lions come in at 10-18 on the season and 0-5 in district play. Led by Ben Goodin with 13.4 ppg and Dalton Mason with 10.4 ppg, the Mountain Lions look for their first win in district play when they meet the Knox Central Panthers in round one. In their previous match-up with the Panthers, the Mountain Lions fell 77-49.

The Pineville Lady Mountain Lions come in at 16-12 on the season and 4-1 in district play. Led by Whitney Caldwell with 17.0 ppg and Raigan King with 16.0 ppg, the Lady Lions will face off against Lynn Camp in the opening round of the tournament. In their two regular season match-ups, the Lady Lions defeated the Lady Wildcats by a combined 14 points.

Knox Central

Knox Central comes in at 24-4 on the season and 3-0 in district play. Led by Nick Martin with 17.8 ppg and Jaylen Adams with 16.6 ppg, the Panthers are the favorite to win the district. They meet Pineville in the opening round of the tournament. In their lone match-up to open their respective seasons, Knox Central defeated Pineville, 77-49.

The Knox Central Lady Panthers come in at 15-11 on the season and 2-1 in district play. Led by Presley Partin with 17.2 ppg, Emily Davis with 13.7 and Caylan Mills with 13.0 ppg, the Lady Panthers will take on the Barbourville in the opening round. In their only match-up of the regular season, the Lady Panthers defeated the Lady Tigers, 60-40.

Lynn Camp

The Lynn Camp Wildcats come in at 14-13 on the season and 3-1 in district play. Led by Marcus Hollin with 15.0 ppg, Max Burd with 13.5 and Maison Prater 13.3 ppg, the Wildcats face off against the Barbourville Tigers in the opening round. In their only match-up of the regular season, Lynn Camp defeated Barbourville, 57-54.

The Lady Wildcats from Lynn Camp come in at 15-11 on the season and 2-2 in district play. Led by Makenzie Grant with 16.3 ppg and Bradi Coe with 15.4 ppg, the Lady Wildcats will face off against the hosting Pineville Lady Lions in the opening round. The Lady Mountain Lions defeated the Lady Wildcats in both of their regular season match-ups.

Barbourville

The Barbourville Tigers come in at 19-8 on the season and 2-2 in district play. Led by Shawn Vaugh with 11.9 ppg, Jacob Helton with 11.0 ppg and Matthew Gray 10.8 ppg, the Tigers face off against the Lynn Camp Wildcats in the opening round of the tournament. In their lone match-up of the regular season, the Wildcats defeated the Tigers, 57-54.

The Lady Tigers from Barbourville come in at 4-24 on the regular season and 0-4 in district play. Led by Abbagail Smith with 15.3 ppg and Brianna Gallagher with 11.3 ppg, the Lady Tigers will take on the Knox Central Lady Panthers in the opening round of the tournament. The last time the Lady Tigers faced off against the Lady Panthers, Knox Central won, 60-40.
