Local musicians to participate in Rockin’ The Crater event

Local musicians and music lovers will take part in the Rockin’ the Crater event from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Middlesboro Community Center.

Organizer John Robertson, a member of The Jade Robertson Band, describes the event as local musicians getting together to have a good jam session.

“Throughout the summer a lot of us play boat docks and festivals, but this time of the year there’s really nothing for a musician to do,” he said. “So, we host this event and it gives everybody an opportunity to come out and jam.”

Robertson said that everything they have ever learned is played on stage.

“We’ve got a lot of country music, gospel, anything anyone wants to sing,” he said. “It’s completely free and the Vets Serving Vets will be there and they will be selling food.”

This is the second year for the event.

“Last year we had a really good turnout and everyone has asked me to do it again,” Robertson said.

He encouraged anyone in any age group who plays an instrument to participate.

“We just do it for all the local musicians to be able to have an opportunity to play during a time when we don’t have the opportunity,” he said. “Last year we had five guitarists, two bass players and two drummers on stage at the same time, and the experience wasn’t even planned.”
