Coming off of a big win against in-county rival Bell County, the Middlesboro Yellow Jackets fell to the Corbin Redhounds on the road Monday night. Led by Chase Sanders with 28 points, Corbin’s offense shot the ball well all night long, totaling 10 three-pointers en route to a 68-61 victory.

Josh Overbay led Middlesboro with 18, and Jabari Kyle had 16. The Middlesboro offensive attack was balanced. In the first quarter, six different players found their way into the scoring column for the Yellow Jackets. Each team traded buckets throughout the opening period, and sat knotted-up at 13 apiece heading into the second quarter.

Sanders and the Corbin offense began to open up from beyond the arc in the second quarter, totaling four three-pointers – three from Sanders. The Redhounds outscored the Yellow Jackets 21-12 in the second period to take a 34-25 into the half.

Middlesboro outscored Corbin 14-13 in the third and trailed by eight, 47-39, heading into the final quarter.

Both offenses exploded in the fourth. Although Middlesboro outscored the Redhounds 22-21, Corbin had built too much of a lead for Middlesboro to overcome.

“We just got outplayed,” said Yellow Jacket coach Lewis Morris. “Sanders shot the lights out. Corbin shot the ball very well all night long, and we just never could get ahold of the lead.”

Middlesboro played Pineville Tuesday night in Pineville. Results of that game will be posted online and will appear in Friday’s newspaper.
