Defeating Lynn Camp 55-49 on the road Tuesday, the Lady Lions closed out the month of January on a five-game winning streak — including seven of their last eight.

“We’re getting better each game,” said Pineville coach Jamie Mills. “It’s not just one player getting better as we go, it’s everyone. They’re playing together better right now than at any other point in the season.”

Led by Raigan King with 24 points and Whitney Caldwell with 15 points, the Lady Lions were able to overcome the Lady Wildcats. Holding Lynn Camp to just five points in the first quarter, Pineville was able to contain the Lady Wildcat offense for the first half and take a seven-point lead into halftime, 24-17.

Pineville kept Lynn Camp from converting a single three-point bucket for the entire game. The Lady Lions took care of business from the free-throw line, converting 15-of-19 free throws in the second half and 25-of-32 for the duration of the game.

King scored 14 of her 24 points from the charity stripe, missing only one free throw all night (14-of-15). She also scored 15 of her total 24 in the fourth quarter to help the Lady Lions pull away from the Lady Wildcats and post a six-point victory.

“It was a great win for us,” said Mills. “We are a pretty young team and they (Lynn Camp) are a pretty veteran team. For us to go up there and play the way we did, it shows me that we are getting better. They had a pretty good student section going up there on their home court, but we never got rattled. We took care of the ball and converted free throws down the stretch. I’m very proud of our effort and how much better we are playing as a team.”

Pineville travels to Knox Central on Friday to take on the Lady Panthers at 7:30 p.m. Lynn Camp traveled to Williamsburg on Thursday.
