Bulldogs win third in a row, defeats Truett McConnell

CLEVELAND, Ga. – DeMarkus Loman came up big once again as he helped guide No. 9 Union College to a 75-68 Appalachian Athletic Conference victory at Truett McConnell University on Wednesday.

Loman registered his third double-double of the season with 28 points and a season-high 13 rebounds.

The win improves the Bulldogs to 15-4 overall and 10-2 in the AAC, while the Bears fall to 10-9 overall and 5-8 in conference play.

TURNING POINT

A 19-0 run turned a three-point deficit into a 16-point lead for the Bulldogs, who led the entire half. Down 34-31 with 1:17 left in the first half, Austin Cummins hit a pair of 3-pointers down the stretch as Union closed out the period with eight straight points for a 39-34 lead.

The Bulldogs opened the second half by scoring the first 10 points in opening up a 50-34 cushion with 16:01 to play.

Truett McConnell fought back, but it never got closer than five points as Union wrapped up the 75-68 outcome.

BULLDOG OF THE GAME

Loman hit 8-of-16 from the field and sank 10-of-14 free throws in recording his game-high 28 points. He also drained both of his 3-point attempts.

Over the last four games, Loman has scored 22 or more points in each and is averaging 27.0 points per game during the stretch.

BULLDOG NOTES

Derek Morgan recorded his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Cummins and Lance Blakley also scored in double figures with each netting 11 points.

Union outrebounded Truett McConnell 50-42, marking the sixth time this year the Bulldogs hauled in 50 or more rebounds in a game.

Jabari Antwine matched his season high for assists with five.

Union will travel to Columbia International University on Monday for another AAC contest. The game is set for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
