If you have to travel by plane or even visit a military base, you will soon need a new Kentucky license that will be required because of increased security standards.
According to the Kentucky Department of Transportation, the new voluntary travel ID licenses — known as REAL ID — will begin to be issued beginning in March.
The REAL ID compliant licenses will be required in order to board flights and to visit military bases starting October 1, 2020.
The Circuit Court Clerk’s Office in Bell County will begin offering new standard and voluntary Travel ID credentials in April.
In both the Middlesboro and Pineville Offices the licenses can be obtained the week of April 22.
If you want to get a voluntary travel ID license, you will need documents to prove your identity, such a current driver’s license, birth certificate or Social Security card.
The voluntary travel ID has all of the benefits of a standard license, in addition to being used for other purposes.
