Harlan bust nets large cache of drugs, cash

A search warrant conducted in Harlan late Tuesday afternoon netted a large amount of Methamphetamine with a street value of over $40,000. Deputies also seized $18,620 cash and four handguns from the residence as well as several Hydrocodone pills.

The warrant search was conducted by the Harlan County Sheriff’s Department at 889 Ivy Hill in Harlan where Clarence Major III, 34, of Harlan, was arrested and charged with Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Greater than 2 Grams of Methamphetamine), Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Schedule 1&2 Controlled Substance) and Possession of Handgun by Convicted Felon.

A second individual, Chastan Bennett, 32, of Harlan, was arrested and charged with Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Greater than 2 Grams of Methamphetamine).

The search warrant was a result of a lengthy investigation conducted by the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival at the location, individuals were observed inside the residence and refused to come to the door. After announcing several times, deputies forced entry into the residence and conducted the search.

Both subjects were lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.

The investigation is continuing by Harlan County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Detectives. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by members of Appalachia Narcotics Investigations.
