The Middlesboro Lions Club, formed in 1941, has announced that longtime member, Lion Mary Wethington, is now district governor, Lions District 43Y for the 2018-2019 Lionistic year.
There are two districts in Kentucky, 43K and 43Y, and 43K includes Lions Clubs in the western half of the state, and 43Y includes Lions Clubs in the eastern half of the state.
Wethington recently retired from Home Federal Bank after 38 ½ years. She has three daughters and nine grandchildren. She has been a member of the Middlesboro Lions Club for 25 years.
The last time that the Middlesboro Club produced a district governor was in 1957, and that Lion was Roy Caywood.
Lions International is celebrating 100 years of service. It is the largest humanitarian organization in the world, with 1.4 million members worldwide, in 200 countries. Lions work to serve their fellow man in many different capacities, with the primary services being for vision, hunger, diabetes, environment and childhood cancer.
The Middlesboro Club is actively seeking new members. They meet the first and third Thursday of each month at Shades Café at noon.
