Student Citizen Award recipients

Rhileigh Alred, a senior at Harlan County High School, has been named the Monticello Banking Company Student Citizen Award recipient for August. Here, MBC Customer Service Representative at the Village Center Branch Kevin Cavins presents a $100 honorarium and the award to Alred. MBC is dedicated to this recognition program to honor outstanding students in the Harlan County and Harlan Independent school districts. Faculty and administrators from each district nominate students demonstrating exceptional academic achievement, leadership, sports and community participation. The daughter of Dusty and Holly Alred of Harlan, she was recently named a WYMT Mountain Achiever, serves as president of the Spanish Honor Society, vice president of the National Honor Society, cheerleader, and is a member of the Distributive Education Clubs of America, Future Business Leaders of America, Link Crew, Beta Club, Educational Talent Search and Superintendent’s Student Council. She served as a Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Ambassador and was named the school’s homecoming queen for football. She has extensive community service and currently has a perfect grade point average while taking dual credit classes. She is a National Society of High School Scholar and was a nominee for the National Youth Leadership Forum for Medicine. She is considering a career as an educator or dentist and will begin her postsecondary education at the University of the Cumberlands or Lincoln Memorial University.

The son of Evan and Heather Benson, he is a member of the Beta Club, academic team and bank. He is enrolled in Advanced Placement classes. He is undecided on his college and major.
