The HCTC/SKCTC Regional Radiography Program has more than one reason to celebrate. First, the X-Ray lab on the Whitesburg campus has received an upgrade. Recently, a Konica Digital Radiography Image Processing System (DR CS-7) was installed which allows the lab to perform the latest digital radiography image processing.

According to Astor Halcomb, Jr., clinical coordinator of the program, “Our new system will allow our students to train with state of the art equipment better preparing them for their clinical experience. It will also allow us to perform exposure experiments in our lab that will facilitate the students’ understanding of the imaging process.”

The Radiography Program is a regional program sponsored by Hazard Community and Technical College (HCTC) and Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKCTC) through a consortium agreement between the two institutions. HCTC admits 12 students and SKCTC admits 12 students to the Whitesburg campus of SKCTC each fall.

Also cause for celebration is the program’s pass rate. Eighteen 2018 HCTC/SKCTC radiography graduates took and passed the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists on their first attempt. In addition, 100 percent of graduates who have sought employment have secured positions in the field.

Says SKCTC President Dr. Vic Adams, “The Radiography Program is fortunate to have a faculty dedicated to the profession, to quality patient care, and, above all, to student success. Our graduates are now working in medical imaging all over the United States.”

Preadmission conferences are going on now, and the deadline for admission is March 1, 2019.
