The J. Frank White Academy (JFWA), located on the campus of Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) in Harrogate, will expand to include kindergarten through third grade beginning in fall for the 2019-2020 school year. The school currently serves students in grades four through twelve.
“We are excited to provide families in our community another option when it comes to learning,” said JFWA Interim Principal Bobby Lockhart. “The Academy has a longstanding tradition of preparing students for success in college and beyond, and we feel confident that instilling those values in elementary school will enhance their education every step of the way.”
The elementary school curriculum will prepare students for educational opportunities in the future. JFWA will carefully balance the rigorous demands of a college preparatory school curriculum with the unique needs of young learners, all in a safe and secure environment, Lockhart said.
JFWA is a college preparatory school that offers small class sizes and access to LMU facilities and resources including the Carnegie-Vincent Library, Tex Turner Arena, advanced science labs, dining hall and athletic fields.
Since its founding in 1989, the school has boasted a 100 percent college placement rate. Academy students achieve higher than average scores on state and national standardized tests such as the ACT.
JFWA is located at the center of LMU in the Campus Quad in historic Farr-Chinnock Hall, renovated to include advanced learning technology for students. Nearby Kresge Hall is under renovation and will be updated to serve the needs of the lower grades.
