HARROGATE, Tenn. — The Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) Women of Service (WOS) presented Judy Thompson Robertson the 2018 Cynthia L. Whitt Woman of Service Award at its annual charity fashion show on August 16.

Robertson received her degree from LMU in 1971, the same year she married her husband, the late Dr. Edwin G. Robertson. Over 30 years ago, the Robertsons organized the first Tri-State Youth Choir. Comprised of teens representing several churches, the group shares the Gospel through song in area churches and makes an annual trek to Florida for mission work and choral performances.

Robertson is a member of Pump Springs Baptist Church, where she plays keyboard for the Praise Team. Over the years she has held valuable roles in community events like the Tri-State Area Crusade for Christ.

“Judy Robertson has a true servant heart,” said Cynthia Whitt, vice president for University Advancement and WOS advisor.

Robertson is a supporter of many causes and organizations which improve the quality of life and advance education in and around LMU and Claiborne County. She serves as a board member for Servolution Health Services, a free medical and dental clinic for the uninsured of the Tri-State Area. She is a valuable leader with the Harrogate Tree Board, which manages the greenway that runs throughout the City of Harrogate. Robertson is secretary to the Powell Valley Electric Cooperative Board and the first woman to serve on that board. She is also a member and has held various offices in the Harrogate Garden Club, whose current LMU project is giving new life to the park located next to Avery Hall.

The Robertsons have two children, Adam and his wife Cindi, and Emily and her husband John King, and four grandchildren, Olivia Robertson, Noah Robertson, Riley King and Halle King.

In 2016, Robertson, along with her family, donated frozen cattle embryos, valued at half a million dollars, to the University of Tennessee agricultural department for research and experimentation. Her husband’s legacy will continue helping many young people interested in the field of genetics through veterinary medicine.

This year’s event raised about $8,000 for scholarships and service projects while serving up delicious finger foods and the latest styles for the upcoming season.

Established in 2011, the LMU Women of Service is open to all women who want to help students at LMU. By living as an example of service, WOS members teach LMU students about the mission of service to humanity. With proceeds from activities like the Fashion Show and the WOS Christmas Festival, the organization funds several endowed scholarships and provides family aid and cultural enrichment opportunities to LMU students.
