On Friday, the Bell County Cooperative Extension Service and Bell County Agriculture Advancement Council will host Farm Field Day. The event will take place at the Bell County Fairgrounds. It begins at 9 a.m. and will stretch until about 1 p.m. The event is free of charge, and there will be a free lunch provided to those in attendance. Door prizes will be given away as well.

The event, which is in its 16th year, provides an opportunity for the community to see resources available in Bell County.

“It’s a good, free opportunity to come out and see a lot of resources that are available in Bell County through various agencies and groups. We’ll have folks from Lincoln Memorial University that will be there,” said Bell County Extension Agent Stacy White. “Our local beekeepers will be there with honeybee displays. Trappers Association will have animal felts there for people to see all the different kinds of animals in the area as far as wildlife goes.

“So, it’ll be a good, fun, family-oriented, free day of education. We’ll end up with a free lunch at noon. I just encourage everyone to come out. It’s a once a year event, and it’s a good time to meet folks in the county and see what your local extension office and Ag. Council is doing.”

White said those who attend can expect to see a variety of exhibitors with a focus on safety issues. These issues can range from farm safety to vehicle safety. There will also be live animals, a petting zoo, pony rides and a train ride. There will be exhibits addressing feral hog management and hay quality too.

There will be contest for “young people” as well.

“This year, we’re going to be doing a goat chase,” said White. “It’ll be pretty interesting. Our 4-H folk will have several youth activities there.”

Some of the agencies that will be present at the farm field day include: Farm Bureau, the Division of Forestry, the Bell County Rescue Squad, the Forestry Camp — along with their dogs, Air Evac and a variety of other local agencies. David Williams from the research station in Quicksand will have a booth on industrial hemp as well.
