Annual Bell County Extension Homemakers kickoff

The Bell County Extension Homemakers held their annual kickoff recently. The Bell County Homemakers are a part of the Kentucky Extension Homemaker Association, a volunteer organization that works to improve the quality of life for families and communities through leadership development, volunteer service and education.

Clubs joined together to celebrate all the activities and community service projects they have done throughout the year. Bell County has a total of 133 Homemaker members. There are four active homemaker clubs and several mailbox members in the community.

Members from the Mountain View Club, Pineville Seniors Club, and the Sunshine Club attended the event. Each club and one individual member was recognized for their volunteer service hours. Mountain View had a total of 3,694.5 hours, Pineville Seniors had 2,018 hours, Sunshine had 1,309 hours and Shelia Key had a total of 318 hours, all valuing at $176,148.

Bell County Extension Homemakers award two $500 scholarships to students in the community furthering their education, they collect pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House, donate money to benefit ovarian cancer research at the University of Kentucky and much more.
