4-H Superstar Chef Day Camp kicks off

Bell County youth met recently at the UK Cooperative Extension Service Office to kickoff 4-H Superstar Chef Day Camp.

They began with learning the basics of My Plate, identifying which food groups different food items belong to and proper portion sizes. The group proved themselves to be really great at charades as they acted out different exercise activities.

The 4-H Superstar Chefs got busy in the kitchen, beginning with a lesson in proper handwashing and food safety. They used proper knife-handling skills to cut fruits for a fruit and yogurt parfait.

“My favorite part was eating my yogurt, and I learned to be careful when cooking because you can get food-borne illnesses” said 4-H Superstar Chef Rayanna Maidon.
